What is the hype about?
-
What is it?
Vuity is a lower concentration and reformulation of a well-known medication that has been present in Ophthalmology for more than 50 years. It is safe and effective and works by reducing the size of your pupil, creating a pin-hole effect.
-
How does it work?
Vuity is a miotic agent. This means it makes your pupil small and creates a pinhole effect, sharpening your distance vision in some cases and creating depth of field and better near vision.
-
Who is it for?
Vuity works best for low farsighted people in the mid to late 40s up to the mid 60s in some cases. This is designed for a person who needs reading glasses, but doesn’t like to wear them. If you are in glasses full time, it likely is not the best option.
-
How long does it last?
About 6 hours. By 8 hours the near point pushes out to more computer distance and by 10 hours the effect is totally gone.
-
What are the side effects?
Usually a very mild headache. But, it can trigger a migraine in some susceptible people. So, you should try it before using it daily. Also, there should be some caution if used and you are driving at night. With your pupil size reduced, this can cause problems with night vision. Rarely, miotic agents can cause retinal tears/detachments, but the rate is very low. At this concentration, the risk is minimal, but not zero.
-
How can I try it?
You’ll need an eye exam to be sure you are a good candidate. If so, we can trial this either in the office or at home and if it works for you, we can send in a prescription for this to a pharmacy of your choice.
-
What's the cost?
This is pharmacy dependent, however, this is NOT an insurance covered medication and your best option is to check the local prices on Singlecare or GoodRx for the lowest price closest to your home.

How long does a bottle last?
Depends on how often you dose it. There are 50 drops in a 2.5mL bottle. Most people will dose this one time a day, but on long days, it can be used twice a day. It should not be used more.
