See Things Differently…
The ability to see is fundamental to life. The ability to see well can change a life. The ability to see things differently opens all possibilities in life.
Why we’re different:
Who We Are AND How We Do It.
WNC Ophthalmology, PLLC was formed in 2020 after acquiring Dr. Albert Anderson’s Ophthalmology practice on Asheland Avenue. Dr. Anderson faithfully provided compassionate medical and surgical care to Asheville for more than 34 years. Our mission is to carry on with his steadfast care, compassion and with his integrity for doing what is right.
In 2021, WNC Ophthalmology, PLLC was chosen to acquire Steven Cahan’s practice on Biltmore Avenue. Like Dr. Anderson, Dr. Cahan was a solo ophthalmologist who provided steadfast and compassionate care to Asheville for more than 31 years. His commitment and longevity of service is commendable in the ever-changing environment of Ophthalmology, but also within medicine in general.
It is an honor for the practice to welcome both of these practice’s former patients to our solo practice. In this era of post-COVID, the “corporate” style of medicine —seeing as many patients as possible, and cramming as many as possible into whatever space is possible — to us, requires new thinking. New approaches. We aim to provide quality care to any person seeking a better way to see — to see differently, if you will.
We cannot change the complexities and problems of medical insurance. What we can do is treat you like a real person with real concerns. We are a small office focused on you. Your eye problems and surgical needs. You will not be rushed in and out of the office. You will meet a real physician for more than 2 minutes of time. Our waiting room has 6 total chairs. This is by design, because we are not cramming 40 people in our schedule for the morning or afternoon.
If your issues are in our scope of practice, we would be honored to care for you. We strive to provide a premium level of personal service and surgical choices that are difficult to hear about in a busy practice crammed with other patients.
We see things differently and know that care and time are the two things patients desire most.
What We Do.
Do you need Cataract Surgery? We can help. And, we’ll do it in a personal way, in a small boutique practice, centered on you.
Do you need routine care? We do that too. All in a comfortable, modern office with attention to service. We don't have an Optical shop, as we support our Optometric colleagues who have the best selections. However, your prescription for glasses or contacts is good everywhere.
Already have an Optometrist? Great! When you need surgery, we’ll work with them to manage your care.
Do you have diabetes or glaucoma? We can help manage those conditions with the latest in diagnostic equipment.
Are you scared about the thought of eye surgery? We understand. Fortunately, our surgeon has performed more than 15,000 operations. All without general anesthesia. So, he’s capable of helping you, too.
Welcome to a different way of providing medical and surgical eye care.
Personalized Care. Without compromises.

Please note! Given our growth, we are now enforcing a cancellation policy to allow more people timely access to our clinic. The details are in our FAQs page. Please help us reach more people seeking help by notifying us of a cancellation so we can offer your appointment time to someone who needs it. Because we schedule fewer people and spend more time seeing them, we rely on YOU to keep your appointment. If you cannot make it — please, give us the courtesy of a simple call .
